What is Alluvial Gold?
Alluvial gold is weathered gold eroded and washed down by rivers, then deposited in riverbeds and alluvial soil. It mixes with sand, gravel and clay in the form of fine gold grains, flakes and nuggets. Different from hard rock gold, alluvial gold needs no crushing or grinding. It can be efficiently recovered by simple washing, screening and gravity separation, featuring low mining cost and easy processing.

Alluvial Gold Washing Challenges and Customized Solutions
1. Coarse Gold Loss Issue
Coarse gold loss is mainly caused by improper screen aperture and mismatched separation equipment. Our jig with adjustable stroke and customized screen mesh can accurately capture coarse gold particles that ordinary equipment miss. Equipped with our professional Derocker, it pre-separates large waste rocks, avoiding coarse gold being carried away with waste, thus maximizing coarse gold recovery with lower investment.
2. Fine Gold Recovery Issue
Fine gold is easy to flow away with water flow in conventional gravity separation. Our custom centrifugal concentrator enhances centrifugal force, effectively captures ultra-fine gold particles that ordinary equipment cannot collect, and has the advantages of small footprint, low energy consumption and flexible installation, which is more suitable for mobile and fixed mining scenarios than ordinary concentrators.
3. Clay Wrapping Gold Loss Issue
Clay caking will wrap gold particles, leading to failure in effective separation. Our trommel scrubber with high-pressure spray and enhanced stirring function can thoroughly break up clay lumps; combined with the centrifugal concentrator, it can separate gold particles from clay, avoiding the most common gold loss problem in high-clay ore processing.

Costs of Alluvial Gold Plant to Consider
Equipment Investment
Covers every system, pipeline and installation costs. Investment depends on equipment specification, material grade, automation level and mobile chassis configuration.
استهلاك الطاقة
Main energy consumption comes from drive motors, diesel generators and water pumps. Larger capacity increases total energy use while reducing consumption per ton of ore.
Labor Cost
Includes operators, maintenance workers and on-site management. Small mobile plants need 2–3 operators per shift; large fixed plants arrange personnel by process section.
Spare & Wear Parts
Screens, liners, diaphragms and impellers are regular wear parts with periodic replacement cost. High clay content and sharp ore particles will accelerate part abrasion and consumption.
Alluvial Gold Production Guide for Maximum Recovery
Key Factors
1) Clay Content
Clay content is the primary basis for designing the ore washing process. Gold particles are easily wrapped by clay lumps; if high clay content and cemented clay lumps are not fully crushed and dispersed during ore washing, the gold will be discharged with waste rock, causing significant metal loss. Such ores must be equipped with high-intensity ore washing equipment, combined with sufficient washing time and water pressure. For low clay content with loose sand, the ore washing process can be appropriately simplified, but screening and classification are still indispensable.
2) Gold Particle Size Distribution
Gold particle size distribution directly affects the selection and combination of gravity separation equipment. For coarse-gold-dominated ores, jiggers are efficient equipment with large processing capacity and stable separation lower limit. For ores with high fine gold content (less than 0.2mm), the sedimentation probability of fine gold in conventional gravity separation equipment decreases, so centrifugal concentrators and other equipment for enhancing fine gold recovery are needed to control tailings grade. For wide-size distribution (common in most alluvial gold mines), a single equipment cannot meet the demand, so a combined process of “roughing – scavenging – cleaning” must be adopted, with corresponding gravity separation equipment configured for different particle sizes.
3) Associated Heavy Minerals
Alluvial gold mines are often associated with high-density heavy minerals such as magnetite, ilmenite and niobite, commonly known as “black sand”. These minerals will be enriched into concentrates together with gold during gravity separation. If these associated minerals have no recovery value and affect concentrate quality, magnetic separation can be added in the cleaning stage for separation. If they have comprehensive recovery value, the process plan needs to be expanded into a multi-product recovery process to produce other heavy mineral concentrates while recovering gold.
Critical Details
1) Stable Feeding
Unstable feeding disrupts washing and separation consistency, causing fluctuating ore concentration and unnecessary gold loss. Our Vibrating Feeder and Apron Feeder deliver adjustable, uniform and anti-blocking feeding. They maintain steady raw ore supply, prevent underfeeding or overloading of downstream machines, and eliminate gold loss caused by uneven material flow.
2) Adequate Washing Time in Washing Stage
Tight clay lumps easily wrap gold particles. Insufficient washing fails to break clay aggregates, locking gold into waste and lowering recovery. Our Trommel washing plant adopts reinforced scrubbing structure and high-pressure spraying. It efficiently breaks dense clay lumps with enough retention time, fully releases wrapped gold, and solves gold loss from incomplete washing.
3) Strict Tailings Grade Recording
Lack of regular tailings grade recording leads to undetected long-term gold loss. Our complete gravity separation lineup: Jig, Centrifugal Concentrator, Shaking Table, Sluice Box realizes graded recovery for coarse, medium and fine gold, minimizing tailings gold content. The optimized process layout also facilitates easy tailings sampling and daily recording, helping you adjust parameters in time and maintain maximum recovery efficiency.
4) Quantify Water Pressure and Water Flow Parameters
Random water pressure and flow setting directly weaken scrubbing and gold settling effect, resulting in fine gold loss. Our supporting water distribution and spraying system is matched with Trommel Scrubber, Jig and Centrifugal Concentrator. It supports adjustable and quantifiable water pressure and flow, keeping stable water conditions all the time, avoiding random operation and reducing gold loss caused by improper water parameters.
5) Establish Simple Shift Handover Records
Without standardized shift records, equipment running status, process parameters and abnormal tailings situation cannot be inherited. Our equipment parameters are adjustable and storable. Clear shift records help inherit optimal parameters, avoid repeated trial and error, and maintain long-term high recovery.
